Some stores sell things that don’t belong together but have to live under one roof. Sweets and smoking accessories. Toys and tools. Consumer and trade. The temptation is either to split into two sites or to flatten everything into one neutral look. There’s a third way.
Category-aware design
Every page knows which world it belongs to and dresses accordingly: palette, buttons, breadcrumbs, product cards, even the footer graphics. On Mister Chew, pink and lilac belong to Caramelle e Dolci, gold and brown to Articoli per Fumatori. One theme, one checkout, one admin, two coherent experiences. Technically it’s a body class per category and a CSS layer that responds to it. Visually it’s the difference between a store that feels considered and one that feels like a warehouse.
B2B in the same storefront
Professional buyers don’t need a second site. They need a discount flow, their own price logic and variants that match how the trade orders (box, half box). All of that fits inside Shopify without a B2B app.
PrestaShop to Shopify: migration as an SEO project
Moving from PrestaShop means every old URL has to land somewhere. Mister Chew carried 248 redirects, a rebuilt product taxonomy (two parent collections, eight sub-collections), SEO titles and descriptions for 239 products and fixed heading structure on every collection template. The rankings came with the store instead of starting again.
Details that make it feel branded
A video intro shown once per session, brand logo tickers per category, hover-image swaps on collection cards, uniform product image ratios across every template. Small things that add up to a store people trust.
FAQ
Can one Shopify store really work for two unrelated product categories?
Yes, with category-aware design: a body class per category switches palette, buttons, breadcrumbs, cards and footer graphics, so each category feels considered while sharing one theme, one checkout and one admin. Mister Chew runs pink and lilac for sweets, gold and brown for smoking accessories, on the same store.
Do I need a separate B2B platform to sell to professional buyers?
No. A discount flow, dedicated pricing logic and variants that match how the trade orders (like box / half box) can live inside the same Shopify storefront without a separate B2B app.
What happens to my SEO when I migrate from PrestaShop to Shopify?
It’s treated as an SEO project: every old URL gets a redirect, product taxonomy is rebuilt, SEO titles and descriptions are written for every product, and heading structure is fixed on every template. Mister Chew carried 248 redirects and rankings came with the store instead of starting over.
What small details actually make a multi-category store feel branded?
A video intro shown once per session, category-specific logo tickers, hover-image swaps on collection cards, and uniform product image ratios across every template.
Is it risky to sell very different product types under one brand?
Only if the site treats them the same. Splitting into two sites or flattening everything into one neutral look are the two failure modes — category-aware theming is the third way.
How much does a PrestaShop migration disrupt an existing store’s rankings?
It doesn’t have to, as long as the redirect map, taxonomy and SEO copy are built before launch rather than after, which is what protected Mister Chew’s rankings through the move.
Is this your store?
If you sell across two or more product families, or you’re moving off PrestaShop or WooCommerce, read the Mister Chew case study or get in touch about a Shopify migration.
